One of the main aspects of fertility yoga is practicing in sync with your menstrual cycle (these Colouring Fertility Affirmation Cards can help you stay in touch with your cycle on your fertility journey), so your practice will look differently while you are on your period, before and during ovulation and then in the luteal phase after ovulation. Therefore, it is not about doing one or two specific poses and boom, youβll get pregnant. It is more about tuning in and getting to know your body, however, some of the poses we work with in fertility yoga are especially beneficial. Today I am sharing with you my top 3 fertility yoga poses and their positive effect on your fertility.
Bridge pose (Setu Bandha Sarvangasana)
The bridge pose is excellent for hormonal balance and fertility. It regulates the endocrine and lymphatic systems and improves blood circulation in the reproductive organs. In this pose heart is lower than the hips which improves blood circulation while having a calming effect on the brain and central nervous system.
Butterfly pose (Baddha Konasana)
In the book “Light on Yoga”, B.K.S. Iyengar considers this pose to be a blessing for women. π
How does it affect women’s health?
π It increases blood flow to the reproductive organs.
π The inner groin muscles, hips, thighs and the pelvic floor are released and stretched.
π It stimulates and rejuvenates the internal and reproductive organs.
π By practicing this pose regularly you can make childbirth easier.
This pose is great not only for women, but men will benefit from this pose as well.
Legs-up-the-wall (Viparita Karani)
If I had to choose just one yoga pose for fertility, this one would be IT. Legs-up-the-wall is a restorative yoga pose that can relieve stress and anxiety and mild headaches. It is an inversion so you can enjoy all the benefits of inversions without having to put much effort into it. As it calms down your nervous system, it helps to make sure your endocrine system is working properly. It also increases blood circulation, sends the blood back to the uterus, the reproductive organs and the heart.
You can find more reasons why to practice these poses and how to practice them correctly in this video.
What do you say, will you join me for some fertility yoga? π
